Neurotoxin Jacksonville, FL

Neurotoxin treatments are the single, most popular cosmetic procedure in the U.S., used to smooth dynamic wrinkles that form as a result of facial movements like frowning, squinting, smiling and other expressions we make daily. They are popular because they help millions to rejuvenate their appearance without surgery.

What is a Cosmetic Neurotoxin?

Neurotoxins are naturally occurring proteins made by certain bacteria. They are purified to eliminate unwanted effects. When injected in to facial muscles, in very small amounts, they block nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax, softening your expressions and reducing dynamic wrinkles.

Cosmetic Uses

  • To improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (called glabellar lines), and crow’s feet around the eyes.
  • Too soften forehead creases
  • To elevate the eyebrows and tighten drooping eyelids to open the eyes
  • To soften lines around the mouth
  • To lift the corners of the mouth
  • To elevate the tip of the nose
  • To soften neck bands

At Advanced Dermatology in Jacksonville, Florida, BOTOX treatment is available for men and women who seek a simple, painless way to improve their appearance, with no downtime.

Types of Cosmetic Neurotoxins

Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotoxin better known as BOTOX, Dysportâ and Xeominâ. Each branded product can be used the same. Each contains the same active ingredient, but the formulations differ and have different characteristics. All are FDA approved to treat dynamic wrinkles. Your provider will determine the best product for your goals.

BOTOX is often used in conjunction with dermal fillers for a complete rejuvenation.

How Long Do the Effects Last?

You will not see results immediately after treatment. Depending on the product used, the patient and the areas treated, final results may not be visible for 3-7 days.  For Botox and Xeomin, maximum effects are typically achieved within a week of receiving the injection.  Dysport works faster, in 2-3 days.

Results will last 3-6 months. To maintain your results, repeat treatments will be needed. Repeat treatments can prolong results, and even decrease the dose needed to accomplish your goals.

Your provider will explain to you how often you should receive your dose of BOTOX Cosmetic injections to maintain the cosmetic effects.

For best results, it is important to choose a provider with years of experience and skill, because this is a technique sensitive procedure. Correct dosage and placement require a detailed knowledge of facial anatomy.

The providers at Advanced Dermatology in Jacksonville, Florida are trained, experienced, and skilled in the artistic application of BOTOX.

Before Treatment

Before treatment, your provider will evaluate your areas of concern, and your medical history will be reviewed. While there is minimal risk of complications, it is important for patients to share their entire medical history to ensure that that your provider understands whether you have allergies, skin conditions or take medications that would make BOTOX treatments unwise. For instance, patients will be advised not to take aspirin, NSAIDS or blood thinners, and muscle relaxants, prior to treatment, as these may interfere with the efficacy and safety of the treatment.

The Procedure

The patient will receive a topical anesthetic to numb the area before injection. You may feel a pinch during injections but no significant pain.

After the Procedure

After receiving your injections, you may experience slight redness, bruising or swelling near the injection site. You will be able to return to your normal activates immediately. However, it is important to remember to stay upright for the 4-6 hours following the procedure and refrain from engaging in heavy exercise for the remainder of the day.  Do not travel via airplane within forty-eight (48) hours of the procedure.

Risks and Side Effects

To avoid complications, it is vital to provide your complete medical history and prescription drugs prior to undergoing the procedure.  All neurotoxins for cosmetic application have been proven safe for medical use in many patients for many years. Side effects may include numbness or tingling in the area injected, no improvement, and headache. Most side effects are temporary, and will resolve on their own.  It is rare, but some people may be allergic to BOTOX. Call your provider if you experience any concerns after your treatment.

Pregnant and nursing women should avoid BOTOX.
